Her History In 1936 the United Methodist congregation in Walkerton, Indiana constructed a building at 700 Van Buren St. Also, in 1936, what is now The Orthodox Presbyterian Church, was formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Today, Grace Reformed Church, an Orthodox Presbyterian congregation, worships at 700 Van Buren St. Grace Reformed Church began as Grace Reformed Christian Fellowship on September 22, 1996. The fledgling fellowship held its first worship service at the Oregon-Davis High School. Mr. Peter Wallace, a doctoral student at Notre Dame and a man aspiring to the ministry in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, came to Walkerton as interim pastor. The congregation purchased the historic building and held her first worship service there on Easter Sunday, 1997. Soon after, on April 25, 1997, the congregation had the joy of hosting Pastor Peter’s ordination. A year later and during the summer of 1998, Pastor Peter resumed full time studies at Notre Dame and at the same time married Ginger Shank (Ginger's father is David Shank, minister of Covenant Reformed Church, Harrisonburg, Virginia). The fall of 1997, eldership training took place. By January 1998 a gathering of pastors and elders from the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC), United Reformed Church (URC), and Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), examined three prospective elders from among the people of Grace Reformed Christian Fellowship. The visiting ministers and elders were: Pastor Jim Bosgraf (OPC), Pastor Peter Wallace (OPC), Pastor Mark Vanderhart (URC) and Elder Tim Baylor (PCA). In February 1998, Wayne Feece, Scott Flora, and David Tessner were ordained as elders. After searching for a new pastor, Glenn Jerrell was invited to visit and preach on July 26, 1998. The congregation voted to call Pastor Glenn and the Presbytery approved the call, so Pastor Glenn, his wife Kathie, and their son Matthew moved to Walkerton from Roswell, New Mexico. Pastor Glenn began service as pastor on October 11, 1998 and was officially and publicly installed as pastor in a worship service held on November 13, 1998. In May 2000 the congregation changed her name to Grace Reformed Church (OPC) and united with the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. The Lord has blessed the congregation in many ways and we invite you to come visit and worship the Lord God Almighty with us.
